Landings Competition:
What is it?
Landings consists of two different events:
Short Field, and Power Off Landings. Although the rules are very similar
there are major differences in how the two events are flown.
Can you describe it in more detail?
First, a pilot must be able fot fly a
normal pattern from takeoff to touchdown. This includes a normal
rotation and initial climbout as well as flying a rectangular pattern
that is corrected for wind drift. The pilots workload increases
dramatically abeam the landing point on the downwind leg.
How are landings scored?
There are numerous areas that
are critiqued during the landings competition. For the official NIFA
testing and event rules please visit
NIFA's website.
