Preflight Competition:
What is it?
Finding multiple discrepancies on an
aircraft in the form of a preflight inspection.
Can you describe it in more detail?
In the preflight event, a small general
aviation aircraft is "bugged" with at least 30 discrepancies for
competition. At the first practices the "flow" will be demonstrated as
well as a detailed list of what to look for. Some common examples of
discrepancies include: placards missing, aircraft documents incorrect,
loose instruments in the cockpit, static port blocked, brakes reversed,
nav lights reversed, screws missing and / or loose, and the occasional
alligator behind the rudder pedals compliments of Jack Haun.
How is preflight scored?
Each person is given a maximum
of 15 minutes to inspect the aircraft. Each person is called one-by-one
to inspect the aircraft. Points are given for each correct discrepancy
called aloud. The competitor with the most discrepancies in the least
amount of time is the winner. For the official NIFA
testing and event rules please visit
NIFA's website.
