Aircraft Recognition:
What is it?
Identifying various aircraft by make and
model.
Can you describe it in more detail?
Aircraft Recognition or "Rec", as it is
commonly referred to, is one of the "Big Three ground events that the
Flight Team participates in. Rec consists of viewing aircraft and being
able to recognize them in 3 seconds. The aircraft used may be any
production aircraft made after 1940, be it military, commercial, general
aviation, or helicopters.
What are the competition
tests like?
The aircraft recognition test
consists of 60 multiple choice questions and 15 fill in the blank
questions. The competitor with the highest score is the winner. For each
slide, as competitor has three seconds to look at a slide of an
aircraft, and then choose the correct manufacturer, model number, and
any nicknames (if applicable). For the multiple choice questions,
competitors have 15 seconds to choose the correct answer. For the final
fifteen write-in questions there is a 30 second time allotment to write
in the correct answers. Five competitors are selected to represent ERAU
in Aircraft Recognition. For the official NIFA testing and event rules
please visit
NIFA's website.
