Safety is a number one priority at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as evidenced by our industry-leading safety culture instilled in all of its faculty, students, and aviation professionals. The Eagles Flight Team is no different as we strive to be the most safety oriented collegiate aviation team in the nation. From weekly safety briefings, to implementing lessons learned from various field trips, Safety is a language the Eagles are fluent in.
During the 2007-2008 season, our members participated in the FAA Safety Team Wings Program. All competition members were at least Basic Wings certified, with many achieving Master Wings status. It is our goal to continue this excellent program into this season and beyond. The entire team also became more involved in our campus community by becoming CPR/AED certified by the American Red Cross.
This year we plan to revisit the Air Traffic Control Tower and the Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) division of the Daytona Beach International Airport. To become more involved in our General Aviation Community, we hope to sponsor a FAA Safety Team seminar available to all Daytona Beach area pilots. Ultimately, we have the prestigious American Airlines Safety Trophy in our sights.
As pilots, our inherent goal, regardless of skill level is to simply infuse a sense of safety in everything we do. But above all this season we will continue to build upon our excellent safety culture looking for new ways to improve it as well as ourselves.
Welcome to EFT Safety, 2010-2011!
Sincerely,
Daniel Urbanski
